First Deadmau5 takes on Ultra Music Festival, then Diplo disses Coachella for their “safe” line-up.
Mixmag News: In a tweet, which has now been deleted, Diplo said: “Maybe I’m just throwing shade but ‘Coachsmella’ looks pretty lame this year. You used to be a place to check out new bands/music.
“Besides Snoop and Dre that’s boss shit right there. Its like bootleg Ultra with a few bands that are safe.”
He is right
Definitely a safe lineup, Coachella is usually known for setting the North American festival standards of acts performing at festivals, but the EDM this year is sad rehash of EDC LV last year. As a Sahara nutjob, this will be a year I won’t spend as much time there as usual. SHM/Guetta are two acts that could be dropped easily. Throw in some Prodigy/Aphex Twin instead – hell bring back the Chemical Bros and give them a full two hours instead of getting cut short.
Sorry Diplo you have been stuck in the Electronic world a bit too long. No disrespect of your knowledge / talent of electronic music BUT Coachella in the USA stands out as the best festival year round. Now i do agree that this year’s line up is not mind blowing and yes it will be copied by LOLLA and numerous other festivals. One thing to point out is Coachella is not a electronic festival they have ONE stage designated for that. The main focus of the festival is ROCK. Originally indie rock and now it covers the spectrum of ROCK. It has grown and changed like everything in life. ULTRA on the other hand is a electronic festival that every year tries to inject a rock element or bands. All you have to do is look at their year one lineup. Sorry – Coachella even with a so called “safe” line up still blows any other festival in the States in talent and in revenue. I have no connection to either festival but i have attended both and one stands out as a solid fest the other pretty much a rave that is growing. Thanks
