Daft Punk are not appearing on “The Colbert Report” tonight due to a contractual obligation to the VMAs

Bad news: Daft Punk were the scheduled guests for tonight’s episode of “The Colbert Report”

It appears that Daft Punk fans will need to wait a little longer to get their live fix. According to Pitchfork and reports on Reddit, the duo pulled out of the Colbert performance at the last minute; Pitchfork says the issue is one of contractual obligation, and there is set to be a surprise appearance at MTV’s Video Music Awards instead.

Robin Thicke filled in and performed a different song featuring Pharrell, “Blurred Lines”. So maybe it was the plan all along– an elaborate fake out to promote Daft Punk’s appearance at the VMAs. But maybe Robin Thicke, his dancers, and his band were actually able to pull off an elaborate performance with only two hours’ notice.
