Frankfurt’s Andreas Tomalla has been a dance scene stalwart since 1984 when he founded Technoclub (the city’s first venue dedicated to dance music), and he’s been producing and DJing ever since as Talla 2XLC. But his latest endeavour is something particularly monumental: Tomalla wants to found MOMEM – the Museum Of Modern Electronic Music – inside Frankfurt’s innovative Children’s Museum.
The one-room museum will tell the story of “techno and the wide spectrum of electronic music that developed from it,” as the website puts it, with sections dedicated to the various electronic music styles, the music’s history and influences, its technology and instruments, global movement, fashion and art. Deutsche Welle reports that MOMEM will also host live events and DJing workshops; it’s scheduled to open in 2017 once the museum achieves its self-funding goals (you can contribute here).
If successful, MOMEM will join Detroit’s EXHIBIT 3000 – housed inside the building of indie dance label distributor Submerge – as the only world’s museum exhibitions dedicated to electronic music culture. Check out the floor plan for MOMEM below.
