Just a day after releasing a public statement saying that #EDM had been blocked because it “was being used to share content that violates guidelines around nudity,” the viral outrage has reached a breaking point. The company has since made a swift return to calm the public. Instagram has reinstated the hashtag, now visible via standard search on the platform. Well now, we have our justice served.
The community has voiced their anger against the unfair ban to the much-loved hashtag in the hours that it was down. Instagram has yet to publicly comment on the reversal, but in the original statement a spokesperson said, “We’re working on a way to more quickly restore certain hashtags that have previously been blocked. We’re also working on ways to better communicate our policies around hashtags.”
