Crookers are a creation of two Italian artists, one from Omegna, the other from Milan. The pair met while exploring dance music outside their individual genres creating a taste like no other, combining: rap, house, fidget, street style, and trance. A very functional and delicious flavor engineered to flow thru the best Italian and European underground clubs.

Ingredients:
5/10 Andrea “Bot” Frantangelo 5/10 Francesco “Phra” Barbaglia
A dash of Southern Fried Records/Interscope Records/Fool’s Gold Records/Potty Mouth Music/3ème Bureau

Method:
Pour the chill “Bot” and “Phra” into a mix of various artists ranging from AC/DC, Kid Cudi, U2, Will I Am, Lady Gaga and many others.
Stir until mixed and what you’ll get is a depth of remix like no other. Serve.

I know you both have a musical history that started at a young age. When did you both get into music and how did you transition into the duo you’ve become today?
“We both started as little kids with classical music, playing the piano and studied all types of instruments from the drums to guitar.
We both went into very different directions musically after that, whether it would hip-hop, punk rock, or metal. We’re always interested in any type music, and blend our influences together.”

How would you describe the evolution of your sound, and what made you evolve in that way?
“We just produce music what we enjoy and feel at the moment. Our sound is always influenced by what we’re listening to. It’s more of a natural evolution then something that you plan.”

What are some artists that inspire you right now?
“What inspires us right now? Well artists like OZ, and just a lot of ‘African style’ types of music, with a lot of rhythmic beats.”

When you first started as a group, would you say it was hard to break out with your sound within the music scene in Milan?
“It was easier to breakout outside of Italy in the beginning. Thanks to the internet, probably. If we limited our music exposure to just Italy it really wouldn’t have been so easy.”

How does each of you play a role in your production process?
“We do half and half via the internet. We don’t live in the same city, so it’s difficult to reach each other. But, in the last period, we worked together to finish the Dr. Gonzo album in a group setting. It was very fun!”

What track do you feel represents your style, right now?
“Can we say two? Okay, “Bust ‘Em Up” and the song, “Hummus” both are on our Dr. Gonzo Album. They’re both two different directions, but we feel like they equally represent what ‘Crookers’ is right now.”
You guys are known for some amazing remixes, but which remix are you most proud of? “I guess we would have to say Day N’ Nite – But maybe not. We are really proud of them all. We are happy with everything that we do, and we cannot choose just one. Every track has its own little story.”

Which remix did you have the most fun producing? “Well, which was the interview you had the most fun?”
This one!“Oh, cool! So we’re going to do a remix for you! With the vocals in this interview! HAHA!”
We’ll send you the audio! HAHA! “It’s going be great and colorful! HAHA!”

Do you guys have any side projects that you pursue alone or with another person?
“We’re doing some other stuff, but we cannot say the names. It’s very secret.”

Consistently devoted to creating a multisensory experience within each festival, Insomniac has established a unique partnership to bring the Las Vegas Strip to the EDC attendees. Blue Man Group will bring a captivating experience to the fans. Wildly popular around the world, Blue Man Group defies simple description. This explosion of color, humor, music, and technology comes to life every night in the custom-built Blue Man Group theatre at The Venetian® in Las Vegas and live performance installations in six other cities across four continents.

This year’s festival will also bring European hardstyle powerhouse, Q-dance, to fans in Las Vegas for the company’s first ever debut in the United States. Adding a seventh stage, Insomniac and Q-dance have come together to bring the harder styles of dance music to EDC attendees for three full nights.

The Bassrush stage will be returning to EDC for a second year in Las Vegas, and the bass-music brand will be featuring a smaller festival in Las Vegas on the Thursday of EDC Week.

Insomniac will transform the Speedway into a completely interactive carnival experience featuring an additional 500 theatrical performers, including fire twirlers, aerialists, dancers, and stilt walkers, plus numerous full size amusement rides and attractions that are free for all ticket holders. The 1,000-acre complex will become a fully immersive audiovisual experience with dynamic large-scale art installations creating interactive environments amidst the seven stages, along with state-of-the-art lighting and sound production and a pyrotechnics display and military flyover nightly.

This spring sees the long awaited release of ‘Sing2Me’ by Germany’s Thomas Gold
through Axtone records – the 25th release in the label’s seven year history.

A highlight of Gold’s sets for the last twelve months, the record has subsequently gained
support from no less than Axwell / Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto & Calvin Harris.
Tipped by the much coveted DMC Buzz Chart in it’s Miami edition, ‘Sing2Me’ has been
covered by leading EDM blogs Dancing Astronaut & Beat My Day whilst MTV featured the
record in Miami 2011!

The last 12 months has seen Thomas’ star rise high as DJ, producer & remixer. His
remixes last year included reworks for two of the planet’s biggest female vocalists in Lady
Gaga ‘Judas’ & Adele ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ with the latter approaching almost 13 million
plays on YouTube to date. Thomas has recently turned his hand to Miike Snow’s ‘The
Wave’ which is scheduled for release post Miami Music Conference.

His recent releases with Dirty South & Kate Elsworth in ‘Alive’ & ‘Eyes Wide Open’ have
both been smashes on Beatport further cementing Thomas’ place amongst the EDM elite.
‘Sing2Me’ isn’t Thomas’ first appearance on Axtone and it certainly won’t be the last. He
remixed ‘Blow Up’ with Axwell last year and is working towards his Axtone Presents
Compilation, set for release this summer.

Thomas Gold ‘Sing2Me’ is released exclusively through Beatport 26th March.

On Saturday, March 24, Miami’s ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL (ULTRA), the world’s premier electronic music event, took the genre to the next level. For the first time ever at ULTRA, global pop icon MADONNA appeared as a special surprise guest—the festival’s gift to their fans—to introduce the main stage final headlining artist AVICII. After her introduction, she joined the Swedish producer and DJ behind the decks and together they premiered his remix of her new single “Girl Gone Wild” from her upcoming album MDNA.

“I’ve been here in spirit for many years, but it’s good to finally be standing on the stage, looking at all you people who have come here from all around the world,” said MADONNA as she took ULTRA’s Main Stage. “In my world the words ‘music’ and ‘dance’ are not separated. Electronic music has been a part of my life since the beginning of my career. I can honestly say that a DJ saved my life.”

Beyond the weekend’s 165,000 fans in attendance of the sold-out festival in downtown Miami’s Bayfront Park, the event was captured on a world-wide scale over UMF TV’s free HD live stream, happening now via Google Play on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/umftv

EDM Magazine had the privilege to chat with Dan Korzeniowski, founder of Afterhours.FM, a renowned trance internet radio station.

“We recently received the #1 spot as “Best Online EDM Radio Station” at the TrancePodium awards, so we will do our best to keep that rank.” – Dan Korzeniowski

The friendly staff at AH.FM is working hard to provide a welcoming online community, live music event broadcasts and fresh content; showcasing radio shows of various DJs and world-class artists, such as Markus Schulz, Sean Tyas, Richard Durand and Lange, all for free! Dan gives insight on his history with electronic music, the challenges an online radio station has to face and how AH.FM flourished into the respected radio station it is today. Log onto www.ah.fm and get connected!

EDM: How, when and where did you discover electronic music?

Dan: I would have to say that it all started around the year of 1996, when I saw a video of Jam & Spoon – Stella. I just fell in love with electronic music.

EDM: What inspired you to start AH.FM? Did you team up with anyone to start the station? What year did you establish?

Dan: Over the years of following the EDM scene, I had made pretty good contacts with many DJs, label sites and club promoters. I had been quite a frequent listener of many stations, and quite frankly I got to a point where I got bored of stations just looping the same sets/tracks. I had a vision of a station full of fresh music on daily basis, new sets being aired by the world’s biggest DJs. To be a place for a true EDM addict, one place where most of the best DJs play. So I wondered what it would take to create a radio station from scratch. I took some time and spoke to my DJ friends on what they think about my idea of a new station; they were thrilled with the idea and supported it. So starting in January 2006, it took basically 5 months to gather all info I would need to create the station (servers, bandwidth, money, redundancy & building the whole radio system). System was done around May 2006, then after a month of testing, we finally had an official launch June 2006.

Maybe you’re thinking why the name Afterhours? Answer is simple; while I lived in New York I always went to “afterhours” clubs to party. It seemed like anything to do with electronic music was referred to as Afterhours so that’s how I got the name.

EDM: What particular DJs/Producers are your favorites?

Dan: This is a very hard question, to be honest I respect all DJs the same way, each DJ is different in their own style and taste, they all have something that’s really unique. A listener can enjoy the ride while listening to any DJ set. I listen to all genres of EDM and it all depends on the mood and what I’m doing so I can’t really say who my favorite is.

EDM: Are there any other genres (besides Trance) that motivate you?

Dan: I listen to all types of EDM that includes: progressive, psychedelic, house, drum & bass, techno but to be honest I always enjoy and come back to the true feeling of trance.

EDM: Who were some of the first artists that joined the station?

Dan: When the station launched we had just a few DJs such as, DreamensioN, Robbie Schwan, Dave Nadz. Young DJs starting out that supported the radio as it supported them. Marcus Schossow (as Under Sun) and Manuel Le Saux also began supporting the radio really early on. We’re really grateful to the current and former resident DJs that helped spread the word in the early days.

EDM: What were some of the obstacles in creating AH.FM?

Dan: Some big issues were – How do we stand out from everyone else? What can we do that’s different in the scene?
We had to figure out how to keep the community entertained, keep it enjoyable for each listener from all over the world. There were already competitors online, how would we promote ourselves and draw listeners from the existing mega-station that dominated the scene? How would we fill 24-hours a day with fresh new content? These were just some of the obstacles that we had to overcome.
Online radio streaming is something that is growing each day, more and more stations launch. It’s really hard to stay competitive. There are also more options for listeners to source music, so there are still obstacles to be overcome even now, five years in.

EDM: How does AH.FM compete with mp3 downloads and podcasting?

Dan: Over the years many new services have launched which do affect the scene somewhat. Staying relevant in a world of podcasts and direct marketing is an ongoing task. To be honest we don’t try to directly compete with any services or stations, we do not work that way. Our theory of success is different; while we love to innovate new things, our recipe for success is high-quality sound, exclusive new sets daily and a friendly community.
Music is a social activity, especially online. When people hear a good track, they want to tell people about it, how it makes them feel, and they want to see what others think, etc. This is what we like to tap into with our forums and chats. In some ways, it’s not the mp3s and podcasts we’re so worried about, it’s the move of listeners from forums and chat-based communication to app-based micro-posts, Facebook likes, tweets and such – or worse, to listening completely alone. Keeping ourselves engaged in those conversations is a challenge since encouraging the social aspect of listening (the community) is one of our key beliefs.

EDM: What separates AH.FM from other online radio stations?

Dan: Afterhours.FM is different in many ways, here are a few:
- We provide FREE high quality streams. (We do not charge users to enjoy high quality).
- We are commercial FREE. (We don’t play any ads on air).
- We have 200+ of the World’s Biggest DJs producing sets exclusive for AH. (We don’t replay other station’s shows).
- Have biggest/most active online Trance radio community.
- We specialize in live broadcasts from some of the biggest trance parties.
- Nobody does special events like AH! Ladies Night, the In the Mix series, Label days, Déjà Vu and of course the Biggest Online Radio Event, the annual End of Year Countdown.

EDM: Would the station ever consider branching out to other genres?

Dan: Honestly we see no point in branching out; the reason is these days it’s hard to really categorize specific music genres. Many tracks are labeled trance but they really are NOT trance. It’s really up to the DJ to create best possible sets for their fan base.

EDM: What are the future plans for AH.FM?

Dan: We are in final stages of launching a new website. Recently we launched our iPhone & Android apps so users can tune in via their mobile. We’re discussing plans to expand into the tablet market. We always look for possible new major live broadcasts and we have some huge ones planned for this year! Other plans include bringing in more new exclusive talent into the station & create more new special events online.

Thank you for this wonderful interview, I also wanted to thank all readers and listeners of the station for their ongoing support from myself and our wonderful staff!
