Jamie xx has been nominated for this year’s Grammy Awards®, in the category of “Best Music Video,” for his single “Gosh.” This marks the second consecutive nomination for Jamie xx; his debut album In Colour(Young Turks) was nominated for “Best Dance/Electronic Album” for the 2016 awards.
“Gosh” was directed by Romain Gavras and produced by Iconoclast and they share the nomination with Jamie. The epic film provides the perfect accompaniment to Jamie’s anthemic In Colour album opener. Huge in both scale and ambition, “Gosh” features a cast of over 400 actors with no CGI or 3D effects whatsoever. Full credits for the video are below.
As with In Colour, the single landed on numerous “best of” lists in 2015. Upon the release of the video NPR called it “a small wonder to behold, Rolling Stone labeled it “mesmerizing” and Billboard declared it “suitably gobsmacking.” Of “Gosh” New York Magazine said it’s “a hypnotically simple song that encapsulates everything great (and sorta eerie) about the producer’s debut album In Colour. It’s ecstasy laced with existential dread.
n Colour was released in June of 2015 on Young Turks. It debuted at the #1 spot on Billboard’s Electronic chart and had a top 3 placing in the UK album charts. The album was a world-wide critical success and, in addition to the Grammy® nod, In Colour was also nominated for the UK’s prestigious Mercury Prize. 2015 and 2016 saw Jamie xx play around the world with multiple sold-out tours of the U.S. that included NYC’s Terminal 5 and two nights at The Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
Jamie xx is currently on tour with The xx who will release their 3rd studio album I See You on January 13, 2017.
