Unbeknownst to many, the Las Vegas Monorail glides gracefully to and fro alongside the Las Vegas Strip, taking only 15 minutes to soar above the traffic from one end to the other. On May 17th and 18th from 6 PM until 2 AM, a group of Vegas artists and EDM enthusiasts called YAYFRIENDS! are throwing a silent rave on 2 of the Monorail trains. With the help of partners MNDST Productions and ZEROdB Global, they produce the event called Sound Check several times annually in the style of an old-school underground subway party to benefit the hearing impaired.

The silent rave uses wireless transmitters to beam the music from 3 live DJs aboard different trains to headphones a patron receives after they pay. Attendees are encouraged to park FREE at the LINQ and walk to the Linq/Harrah’s Monorail station where they can rent the headphones and register to get involved in future events.

“It’s our third installment of the Sound Check silent rave series, and we’re excited to once again join together to raise awareness and funds and to donate to the National Association of the Deaf,” says Johnny Moscow, YAYFRIENDS! Founder and CEO. “The idea is that when you come onboard the monorail, you see all these people at a rave but you can’t hear it, so you immediately step into the deaf person’s shoes. When you get your headphones, that’s like getting your first hearing aid, which is what we hope to give people the experience of.”

“During the last 2 events, we only had 1 train. This time we have 2 trains with 3 DJs playing simultaneously, which means less waiting, more music, and more friends,” says Tiffany “Shades” Tilly YAYFRIENDS! Senior Production Manager. The event lineup over 2 days features music from a wide array of genres including electro & tech house, bass music, d&b, techno, trance, and more. Headlining the event is the legendary Donald Glaude, who played at the last event. “Hopefully they’ll have me do it again whenever they need me. I’ve never done anything like that before and it took me 10 minutes to get my bearings, but once that happened, the crowd was amazing. I mean, it was really cool and it was for a good cause.”

In addition to Donald Glaude, patrons can expect to hear other great music from Dancetronauts, DJ IDeaL, MNDST, Church: Bass Worship, Silence Code, and more. Partygoers are encouraged to dress up for the nightly themes and arrive early to ensure you get headphones. Thursday is ‘90’s Rave Night’, and Friday’s theme is ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’.

The cost for the event is just $20 plus a $1 or $5 monorail pass. For more information visit www.yayfriends.com/new-events/sc3.
