It was approximately 1:00am when fans started clearing the stages of EDC on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
For about an hour, the music patrons are waiting patiently either standing on the grass or sitting in the stadium chairs near the festival’s main entrance. With the unfortunate cause of extreme high winds, EDM fans were disappointed but understanding. Watching the crowd mingle, dancing to the temporary music and hanging out on the lawn turned into something that would remind you of the events at Woodstock in 1969. Although, there were still questions lingering in the air such as, Will the show will go on tonight? Will there be a refund? What’s going to happen with all the DJ’s? What’s going to happen on Sunday, EDC Day 3? Some people stayed positive still willing to stick the night out, not leaving the motor speedway until 5:30am.
For those who started to leave early, there were huge waiting lines to catch a taxi cab or a shuttle ride back to their hotel rooms. The people who drove their own vehicles may had a better chance on leaving sooner but it’s still a great wait. To see things in a positive light, the organization of the Insomniac staff and Public Safety officials during the emergency was executed in a efficient manner. Their concern and empathy was greatly expressed and the music festival in our eyes was a success until the forces of mother nature took over. Unfortunately, since there are so many people in attendance and only one narrow two-lane exit to leave the motorway, the time to leave wasn’t as quick as people would have liked. EDM Magazine appreciates the safety precautions officials took since we seen first hand of speakers swaying at some of the stages. The last thing Insomniac needs is an unfortunate fatality.
For those who don’t know yet. THE SHOW WILL GO ON FOR EDC DAY 3 – SUNDAY, JUNE 10, 2012. The official announcement from Insomniac events can be read at: http://insomniac.com/newsDetails.php?news=246.
